When I became a man, I put away childish things. But then I got bored!

The older I get the more enjoyment I get out of simple childlike arts and crafts, and I’m not alone in the last two months my friends and I have partaken in dressing up for two costume club nights with two varying themes (funky fashionista, mad hatters tea party) and painted boiled eggs and rolled them down a hill. Now the actual club nights and egg rolling were lots of fun. But the preparation before hand was just as much.

Funky Fashionista:

not bad for a few scraps of fabric and a load of bubblewrap

So you’re at your mate’s flat after work and somebody suggests going to a themed club night where you don’t have to dress up but you might feel out of place. You’ve got an hour or so, what do you do?

Well if you were like us (me + 3 other creative nuts with too much imagination and can of Strongbow each) You would hunt out random scraps of material, fabric, bubble wrap, wigs and makeup and anything and everything you might find useful and start crafting an outfit the result we got in for less than the entry fee and had plenty of admiring glances at our last minute creations.

Mad Hatters:

cheshire cat

lots of fur and face paint

After the crazy fun of the “Fashionista” night I was pleased ecstatic to find out the next months night would be on the weekend I was going out for my Birthday. So with a month to prepare I invited my mates and told them of the “Alice in Wonderland” theme. With much more time to design and make my costume I had to make sure it was eye catching. I decided to go as the “Cheshire cat”. I had ideas of what I wanted it to look like and got all the materials together but with one major flaw though: the lack of sewing machine and the lack of knowledge in operating it (this will be remedied in the near future, it’s on my list!). Step forward my good mate a fellow designer who through his last big project had acquired the know who to sew my costume together. Come the night everyone had made the effort and looked amazing and such a creative bunch we were, and even though we were partying before going out we couldn’t stop tweaking our costumes and making more parts for ourselves and each other.  Again our outfits were a success and judging by everyone else in the club we weren’t the only ones who took pride and effort in crafting a costume.

Good Fun Friday:

cracking!

Take numerous hard boiled eggs, some acrylic paints, some felt tips and some glitter glue add six 23-28 year olds with an afternoon off and nothing better to do and the result an hour of solid  decorating with designs ranging from an eye, the design of a Strongbow can, Ginger spice and a quirky Japanese inspired bee! We took so long in decorating them that we were a bit later than planned in rolling them, but when we did it was EGGSellent (first and last pun I promise) fun. The strange thing about the egg day was I don’t remember painting eggs being that much fun when I was a kid and we will probably do it again next year.

hey!

just setting everything up people, we will be live soon stay tuned
